The Historic Fayetteville Cemetery was established in 1823, two years after the land was ceded from the Creek Indians. It is unclear how this land that sits between 350-210 Stonewall Avenue West became the cemetery. The first marked grave was interred in 1834. Those that rest here include Civil War, WWI, WWII, and Korean War soldiers. Founding families of our county, relatives of Margaret Mitchell and “Doc” Holliday, a Governor, five Sheriffs, Mayors, and Congressmen have been laid to rest here.
