Bringing Dignity to Those Who Rest Here

Friends of the Historic Fayetteville City Cemetery

After our first meeting in April of 2022, it was full speed ahead. We set goals with the most important items that we wanted to accomplish. Research about the history of the cemetery was time consuming but a vital step. Gail Jenkins and Michelle Anderson presented a Power Point Presentation to the City of Fayetteville City Council, Mayor Ed Johnson, and City Manager Ray Gibson to bring an awareness of the terrible condition of many of the graves and the grounds of the City Cemetery. To make our organization official, we applied for our EIN # and 501(c)(3) nonprofit status with the IRS.

At monthly meetings, we discuss our goals and prioritize the items that need our attention the most. Of course, we can’t accomplish everything without volunteers and funds. To raise funds to accomplish our goals, Gail Jenkins contacted Main Street and requested for Friends of the Fayetteville City Cemetery to be the host of the Cemetery Walk. Fortunately, they made the decision in our favor. We are extremely thankful to the volunteers who stepped up making this a successful event. Work days in the cemetery consist of trimming and cutting trees and bushes, picking up limbs and trash, raking leaves, pulling weeds, spraying Roundup, spreading ant killer, putting in new flower beds, and cleaning graves.

The first session of our Memorial Brick Path will be completed 11/15/23. It looks awesome. Please stop by and check it out. The Brick Fundraiser will continue throughout 2024. So you still have time to purchase a brick or two to honor or remember someone special. Several people have inquired if the person needs to be buried in our Cemetery. Absolutely not! They can even still be living. Some families have purchased just their families name and others their names and marriage date. To order your brick just go to: Thatsmybrick.com/fhfcc  The site is really simple and user friendly and allows you to view your brick before ordering. You have the option to pay online w/credit or debit card or you may send a check to FHFCC. The website will walk you through each step.
