The Fayette County Sheriffs' Department celebrated their Bicentennial in 2022 by visiting cemeteries in Fayette County and in several other counties honoring as many former sheriffs as possible. Fayette County Sheriffs' Department flags were placed at each former Sheriff’s grave and a prayer was said by a member of the department. The Ceremony took place on Friday September 9, 2022 and was held in our Historic Fayetteville City Cemetery, where five former Sheriffs rest. Those men are Samuel Marshbourne, J. W.  Brown, Thomas Kerlin, F. B. Brown, and Thomas Edmondson.

Judge Scott Ballard, who’s grandfather was a former Fayette County Sheriff, opened the ceremony with some inspirational words about our law enforcement throughout these 200 years with our current Sheriff, Barry Babb following with facts and stories of those who served our county. Taps was played by a deputy and the Police Honor Guard presented arms and colors. Mayor Ed Johnson closed the ceremony with a prayer.
